Conflict and fire at Louis Dreyfus Commodities General Lagos' Terminal.
Yesterday afternoon, arnd 1900 hrs LT, a fire started at LDC Terminal in General Lagos.
Preliminary info indicates that was intentional and the climax of a protest of grain cargo truck drivers.
Incidents started a little bit after 1800 hrs LT for an argument between truck drivers and personnel of cargo quality checking point, which is the previous step before cargo discharging.
Truckers were angry for a while and some drivers pointed out there were over 1.500 trucks waiting for their turn in the line. Some of them for 3 days.
Tension between trucks drivers and Terminals are quite normal during "rough harvest season", when there is an average of 12.000 trucks-a-day waiting for permit entrance to different Terminals and factories. It wasn't the first time that serious incidents happen.
The battle that followed even delayed the firemen, who had to wait for a police escort to enter to Terminal
to fight the fire, which had place one hour later they arrived (Abt 2100 hrs LT).
