The Rio de la Plata Administrative Commission (CARP) adjudicated to Royal Boskalis Westminster NV (Boskalis) the contract for the dredging and maintenance of the Martín García channel, located between Uruguay and Argentina in the northern part of the River Plate estuary.
The Martín García channel is the main access channel to the Nueva Palmira port, as well as to the Uruguay River.
The dredging program main objective, is to deepen the channel and, subsequently, to maintain a depth of 34" during the contract period.
The dredging work will be carried out in 2018, with the removal of approximately 6 million cubic meters of sand and silt with two suction hopper dredges and approximately 500 thousand cubic meters of clay and rock with a large backhoe.
The maintenance contract requires mainly, the annual removal of approximately 5 million cubic meters of sand and silt, during a subsequent period of four years and will be carried out with a drag suction hopper dredger.
