Last Saturday 14th dredger Hang Jun 3001 started working on Martín García channel with the goal of removing 4 millon cubic meters of sediments in seven months.
On a bit of backgound this was being delayed for several years due to political and economical differences and corrupted desition making. In 2012 CARP (Binational Administrative Comission of Rio de la Plata river between Argentina and Uruguay) revoked the dredging rights to private company Riovía in an attempt to solve this issues. Three different national dredgers were used during that period with no noticiable improvement.
Finally on February of 2015 CARP decided to start the project again and in September accepted a contact of 12.5 million dolars with UTE corporation to commence the dredging operations.
