Pls note that Argentina Coast Guard has issued an ordinance using m.v. VITOSHA running aground as the main reason to RECOMMEND that all vessels sailing through Km 138 of Parana Bravo river should do so not exceeding 8,50 meters sailing draft. Argentina pilots have not advised whether they will follow Coast Guard recommendation. This measure is to be maintained until new soundings of the area and any improvements needed are performed. The measure particularly affects vessels sailing from Nueva Palmira, which used to do it on a max sailing draft of 10,21 meters, significantly reducing the possible intake from these ports. We have to keep in mind that Martin Garcia channel is still restricted to 8,84 meters for vessels up to Panamax size. There is not any prospect for improvement in the near future. A tender to dredge Martin García channel has been awarded to two companies but improvements are not expected any time soon. We will follow the matter and revert with any sign of improvement.
